Missouri Health Plans Education and Research Foundation
Established in 2004, the Missouri Health Plans Education and Research Foundation (MHPERF) is a 501 © 3 organization. The Foundation was created by MAHP to coordinate educational activities, to oversee the Gary Maienschein Memorial Scholarship Program, to provide educational resources such as the formulary guides, and to facilitate joint activities with public health and voluntary health agencies.

The Foundation has representatives from commercial as well as Medicaid managed care plans. Members of the Governing Board include Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City, Coventry, Healthcare USA, Harmony Health Plan and Missouri Care. The Board of Councilors, an advisory group, consists of Abbott Pharmaceuticals, Amgen, Boehringer-Ingelheim, Daiichi, Forest Pharmacueticals, Novo Nordisk, Ortho-McNeil, Sanofi Aventis, Schering Plough, Takeda and Wyeth.

The Kansas City Universal Formulary Guide is a project of the Missouri Health Plans Education and Research Foundation (MHPERF). The guide provides an in-office resource for physicians to determine which drugs are covered in health plans of their patients. The Guide is compiled by a Kansas City area workgroup comprised of area health plans to include the most prescribed drugs and the formulary status of coverage for the members of health plans. In the spring of 2008, 11,500 guides were printed and disseminated to over 5000 Kansas City area physicians. The 2008 Guide is available here and at the links above. MHPERF would like to thank Boehringer-Ingelheim for supporting this project

MHPERF is also pleased to present the Missouri Health Care Data Summary for 2007, an overview of demographic, financial, pharmacy, utilization and other measures for health maintenance organizations (HMOs) and Type 2 diabetes patients in key markets in Missouri. The Summary also provides state and national benchmarks that can help plans identify better opportunities to serve the needs of their members. MHPERF wishes to thank Sanofi-Aventis for their support of this project.
