MC+
managed care began in 1995 in Missouri when the Division of Medical
Services contracted with managed care plans to provide benefits to
Medicaid participants in selected counties. The goals of the state
were to improve accessibility and quality of health care services for
Missouri's Medicaid participants, while reducing costs.
In 2007 SB 577 established MO HealthNet, which replaced the state Medicaid program. The details of the program continue to be defined by an Oversight Committee. Missouri’s MO HealthNet managed care currently operates in 53 counties.
